There are many variations of making tomato chutney. I will be sharing another such tasty variations in my upcoming post.
All the versions of tomato chutney taste good and go well with South Indian breakfasts like Idli, Dosa or Uttapam.(even with vada)
- Gingelly oil
- Onion 2
- Green chilly 2
- Chilly powder
- Turmeric powder
- Mustard Seeds-1/2 tsp
- Urad dal-1 tsp
- Roasted channa dal-1 tsp
- Red chilly-1
- Curry leaves-7 to 8 curry leaves
Follow The Steps
Step 1 : Heat oil in a pan, add chopped onions till soft.
Step 2 : Add Tomato and sauté till it blend well onion and add green chilly.
Step 3 : When the onion and tomato cooked well, add the spices and coat well.
Step 4: Stir and sauté till the tomato is soften. It takes about 6 to 7 minutes on a low flame. Switch off the flame once done and allow to cool.
Step 5: Once the onion-tomato mixture cools, add them to a chutney grinder or small blender. Now add 2 tbsp water and grind to a smooth paste. You can also add 1 or 2 tbsp more water if required.
Step 6: Tempering
- Now we can temper our chutney to make it tastier
- Heat ½ tbsp oil in a pan or same pan.
- Add mustard seeds, urad dal roasted channa dal one by one.
Step 7 : Add 7-8 curry leaves, red chili, sauté till the curry leaves become crisp.
Step 8: Now add the ground tomato paste and stir well.
Step 9: Saute for 3 to 4 minutes on a low flame, check the taste and add more salt if required.
The tasty tomato chutney is done and ready to be served.
